Meet Community Advocate and Trustee, Debi Harlow

Debi Harlow is a familiar face to many. She has lived in El Dorado County for over 60 years and currently volunteers with more than half a dozen different non-profit organizations in the community. Her personal mantra: “we are not put on this earth for oneself, but to help others.”

Debi has served as a Board Trustee for Marshall Foundation for Community Health for nine years. When asked what it was about the Foundation that inspires her, she explained; “The Foundation is important to El Dorado County. It supports Marshall Medical Centerand other health-related programs for Western Slope residents. The healthier our neighbors are, the stronger our community is.”
Not long ago, Debi was admitted to Marshall. “Every single person that cared for me during my stay, including the housekeepers, food service workers, nurses, and aides, made me feel like they really cared about me, my health and my comfort,” she said.
She also volunteers for Meals on Wheels, Mother Lode Rehabilitation Enterprises (MORE), Child Advocates of El Dorado (CASA), Kiwanis, Women’s Fund, and Hands4Hope.

“There aren’t many things as satisfying as knowing that you’ve had a positive impact on people’s lives. That’s what keeps me going,” she explained.

When she isn’t busy giving back, Debi’s favorite pastime is spending time with her grandchildren. She and her husband, Paul, also raise cattle, chickens, and maintain a large garden. She also loves to golf.
